I love new foods and I’ll eat almost anything, at chance to try something new. It’s fair to say, I eat anything and everything by now
. By living in Melbourne this past 2 years, I learnt the diversity not only in their race and culture, but also in the term of cuisine. Name those foods, Italian, Greek, Western, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Malaysian, Thailand, Indonesian, even few parts of African or South American.
Like usual yesterday I went dining out with my girlfriend, which usually spent at least 30 minutes with me where to eat. Let me get through with little bit of my personal “food argument”. It usually comes like this.
GF: where do you wanna eat?
Me: anything, honey. you choose…
GF: No, I want you to choose where to eat. what do you wanna eat?
(Cut) The conversations above happens everytime, and I know everytime I put my suggestion in, her VETO comes right in. Let me finish it………
Me: I always wanna try to eat **$%( near the *&)$@#$%.
GF: N0, I don’t like the food. It doesn’t taste good and the place is hideous.
(Cut) Yes, the one above almost happens everytime. Since I’m tired to bargain about my stomach on that particular time…and one more thing, when we pop “where to eat” question, usually we are already starving to death. By this time, I’ll just suggest the food that she really hates and let her decide it by her own.
Me: Hey, ummmm….how about Don Don?
GF: No…no…no….no!!!! (gives me a bad look and ready to give her own suggestion)
Me: (Smile with not-so-much victory)
So yesterday, we (I mean…she) decided to eat at this Chinese Restaurant that serve Xinjiang Food. Few months ago, I ate same kinds of food down in Footscray, so I’m quite familiar with it. One thing interesting about this particular Chinese food is it’s halal. It comes with variety of mutton, chicken, lamb…which somehow has similar ingredients with food that comes from Turkey or Lebanon. But they kept it Chinese, which is dumpling, saucy, etc.
I remember when I used to live in Padang, Indonesia. As a moslem society there, the stereotype of Chinese food is non-halal, which do no-justice to the food like Xinjiang Food.
Chopstick, ladies and gentleman. What is more Chinese than chopsticks. What makes is better is, it’s wooden chopstick. The grips and the feeling is just better. Not to attack Korean Food, but somehow I hate Korean chopstick, with their stainless-steel and skinnier chopstick. Wooden chopstick roooccckkkksss….!!!!!
Da Pan Ji and Yang Rou Chuan are the most famous food of Xinjiang Food, therefore it’s a must-try food when you go to eat Xinjiang Food. Even though I’m gonna doubt that. If anyone ever try these 2 foods, they will know the richness of the taste Xinjiang Food. Damn, writing this makes me hungry. LOL.
If you will excuse me, I wanna make the same argument with my girlfriend like we usually do. “where we eat, honey?”
